Green and young guns lead Oates Vic Open

Victorians Richard Green and Kristopher Mueck and Queenslander Daniel Nisbet are currently tied for the lead after round one of the Oates Vic Open.

Following on from his magnificent hole-in-one in yesterday’s pro-am, Green had a solid opening to his Oates Vic Open campaign shooting six birdies, an eagle and a double bogey for a 6-under 66.

After yesterday’s excitement Green felt comfortable heading into the first round.

“I feel like my form is pretty good and once I got on the right side of par I felt more and more comfortable,” said Green who is a regular on the European Tour.

“The last three weeks of playing on the European Tour, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar, the competition level over there is just immense. Your game adapts to a certain level and I feel like I’ve got myself into pretty good form.”

Meanwhile, Victorian Kristopher Mueck shot up the leaderboard with seven birdies to join Green in the lead.

Players had a tussle with the wind by mid afternoon and Daniel Nisbet was happy with his finish, equaling Green and Mueck, and to see his name atop of the leaderboard.

“It’s a tough course out there in this wind so to shoot 6- under I’m very excited for the rest of the week.” said Nisbet.

“What helped me so much was not making bogeys.”

“Hopefully I’ll have a good round in the morning and get out before the wind kicks up to much and maybe shoot another good score.”

Round two of the Oates Vic Open kicks off on Friday at 7:10am.
