Green qualifies for US Amateur

Hannah Green has qualified for the US Amateur while enduring 42 degree temperatures at the Country Club at DC Ranch.

Green’s 1-under round of 71 was good enough to earn a place at the world’s flagship amateur event to be held at Portland Golf Club from August 10.

While the top 25 amateurs in the world earn automatic entries to the US Amateur, Green had to go through qualifying as the world number 45, even through her ranking has peaked at 25 earlier this year.

Green was delighted to earn the chance to play alongside the world’s best amateurs, however she admitted said she left a lot of shots out on course in her 1-under round.

“I played really solid but I just made two bad swings that caused bogeys, and I also missed a lot of birdie opportunities!”

And despite playing against a field of locals accustomed to the Arizona heat, Green said the weather didn’t play a factor in her round.

“To come out with 71 shows I managed the heat well. It’s just like home when it’s our summer, so I thought I did a pretty good job to handle it.”

Just hours after completing her round, Green has arrived in Houston for Golf Australia’s annual High Performance camp where many of Australia’s elite amateurs and USA based professionals, such as Oliver Goss, will be in attendance.

The camp gives Green the a great chance to work on her game ahead of the US Amateur, with her coach Ritchie Smith and GolfWA physio Marty McInnes a part of Golf Australia’s team at the camp.

Green has two more events ahead of the US Amateur, with the Canadian Amateur from the 28th of July and the Trans Amateur in Florida from August 3.
