Green, Zions in touch

Richard Green and Matthew Zions are the best-placed Australians after the first round of the Irish Open, with both players carding one-under rounds of 71. Simon Dyson, Peter Gustasson, Peter Hanson and Andres Romero are all in a share of the lead after shooting four-under rounds of 68 on day one. Green started poorly, going to the turn at one over after three bogies and two birdies. But the Aussie recovered with a blemish-free back nine, picking up strokes at 11 and 15 to stay in touch with the leaders. Zions turned in consistent performance, which could have been a lot better if not for one horror hole. The Aussie registered a triple-bogie on the par four eighth and managed to pick up just one stroke on the back nine with two birdies and a bogie. Terry price had a disastrous opener hacking his way to a dismal 83 – 11 over the card. Price hit a staggering six bogies, two double-bogies and a triple bogie on the par five seventh all but ensuring an early exit.
