Green’s second perfect US Amateur prep

It wasn’t quite to be for Hannah Green, but the young West Australian will take exceptional confidence into next month’s US Amateur after a tied second finish at the Canadian Women’s Amateur today.

Green was outduelled by world junior champion Hye-jin Choi at Ken-Wo Golf Club north of Halifax, Nova Scotia, but continued to impress in the run-up to the biggest event of her amateur season.

The Mount Lawley member was rarely in trouble in the second to last group in the final round, but just couldn’t make the putt to set her alight.

One eventually fell on the par-three 13th, but Green gave it back on the 16th and had to settle for an even-par 70 as Choi poured in five birdies against one bogey for a classy 66.

The Korean finished at nine under, four clear of Green and Americans Andrea Lee and Allisen Corpuz.

Of the other Australians, successful Queensland Interstate Series captain Gennai Goodwin continued her remarkable comeback after her opening 78 dropped from her contention.

Goodwin scythed through the field with subsequent rounds of 69-70-69 to finish at six over and T16 alongside Sydney’s Liz Elmassian, who also closed with an impressive 69.

WA’s Hira Naveed and Queensland’s Yu Eun Eunice Kim each shot 74 to finish T20 at nine over, while Karis Davidson’s week to forget ended with a 75 for a flat +19 total.
