Hall of fame in Ulverstone

Four-time Tasmanian state champion Tammy Hall has won the 2008 Australian Women’s Mid Amateur Championship at Ulverstone Golf Club. In a thrilling finish, Hall defeated defending champion Julie Swanson by two strokes to finish with a round of two-over par 75 and 229 for the championship. NSW&aposs Kim Burke finished in third place, two strokes behind Swanson. The victory is Hall&aposs first national title. As nerves rose in the final holes, Hall was able to bogey the 18th and still hold on to claim victory. Hall&aposs victory was helped by a special ingredient- local junior Sarah Johnstone (who also played for Tasmania in the recent Interstate Teams Series in NSW). Johnstone holds the current course record at Ulverstone with a 66. Hall credited part of her victory to Johnstone&aposs knowledge of the course and reading of the greens. The Australian Women&aposs Mid-Amateur Championship is in its second year, and with players competing from many parts of the country, the victory was all the more sweeter.
