Hansen and Bence winners at the Melbourne Senior Classic

Andrew Hansen has capitalized on his overnight lead to claim the 2014 Melbourne Senior Classic title. It was an early morning for the field with a 7.30am shotgun start in crisp conditions today at Woodlands GC. The Eastern member carded a 7 over 79 to win by 5 shots on 149 from John Wheeler (The National) and Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath), both tied on 154. Wheeler’s round of 74 was the best for today and won him the gross count-back from Claney.

In the nett event, Peter Bence of Peninsula-Kingswood claimed the honours as Hansen cannot win more than 1 trophy. Bence (hcap 6, 7) had solid rounds of nett 73 and 70 for a two-round total of 143. Runner-up was Barry Thomson of Southern (hcap 16, 17) on a count-back from Graham Bone of Commonwealth on nett 145.
