Hansen and French claim Yarra Courses titles

The Yarra Courses Senior Amateur is an 18-hole senior stroke-play event rotated annually amongst the different golf courses in and around the Yarra area. Green Acres Golf Club hosted this year and the course was presented in immaculate condition for the 59 players following their recent Club Championships. Play commenced at 12:30pm in hot sunny conditions with the wind picking up mid round, bringing in a welcome cool change from Melbourne’s scorching summer heat.

It is a tight match at the top of the gross leaderboard between familiar faces. Eastern’s Andrew Hansen and Rossdale’s Tony Hyde both carded 73s off the stick to force a count-back for first place. After tying again on a back-9 count-back, Hansen narrowly nudged out Hyde by a mere shot coming in with 26 on the last 6 holes.

In the nett section, it was local member and Green Acres Men’s President Peter French lighting up the course with a nett 67. The 13 marker made the most of the home club advantage in his debut event on the Doug Bachli Trophy senior circuit, finishing 1 shot ahead of Eastwood’s Christopher Blythman (hcap 6) with a nett 68. Blythman won on a count-back from Wayne Phillips of The Heritage.

The next events coming up on the senior calendar will be down on the Bellarine Peninsula at the Surfcoast Senior Amateur (The Sands) on 10-11 Feb and Lonsdale Senior Amateur on 13-14 Feb.
