Round 2 – Friday 22 May
The stage was set for a nail biting close finish today at Warragul for the second and final round of the 2015 Warragul Senior Amateur. A much clearer and slightly warmer day ensued for a good day of golfing. Some quick repairs to the course last night by the ground staff were required, thanks to a runaway cow, which returned the course to its great condition.
Champion of the day was Eastern Golf Club’s Andrew Hansen, shooting a 2 over par 75 off the stick to take home the 2015 Warragul Senior Masters title. After taking the lead off overnight leader, local Ron Magill, Hansen then took Ross Percy (Cobram Barooga) to a countback to be decided the final winner, both scoring 79-75.
Similarly in the net section, Ignatius Duivenvoorden is the come from behind winner, carding a net 69 today and 70 yesterday (totaling 139) to take the prize ahead of Ron Magill with 2 nett scores of 70 totaling 140.
Heather Harley became the 2015 Warragul Ladies Senior Amateur Champion, with 2 very good scratch stableford scores of 18 and 23, a whole 8 points ahead of nearest rival Glenda Kelly. Glenda had more luck in the Handicap Stableford event, taking top honours with scores of 32 and 33, to finish ahead of another local Shannon Trumper who posted scores of 28 and 33.La
Special thanks are to be extended to the Warragul Country Club for their superb hospitality, in particular Director of Golf Heath Jones, club Captains Phil Rossiter and Maureen Kittelty, course superintendent, and the catering staff for their assistance over the tournament.
The next event on the Senior Calendar is the Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur on Thursday 28 – Friday 29 May, then across to Heathcote Golf Club for the Heathcote Senior Amateur on Sunday 14 June before the annual 2 day Senior Amateur at Shepparton Golf Club on Monday 15 – Tuesday 16 June.
