Avondale's Golf Club's Harrison Endycott has posted a solid 5-under par 65 at Royal St. George's to be the best of the NSW qualifiers in the 2017 British Amateur Championship.
The 21-year-old had six birdies and only one bogey in his round, signing off with a ten footer for birdie on the last.
"I threw it into 10 foot and sunk it," he grinned
"I am pleased with the way I played."
"St George's is a course where you have to plot away, and I did."
"The putter felt great, and I made the most of my opportunities," Endycott said.
Joining Endycott in the match play rounds are his State teammates Travis Smyth, Blake Windred and Dylan Perry after the trio posted matching two-under par rounds.
Smyth played solidly, posting a his 68 at St. George's, while Perry posted a two under par 70 at Prince's to go with his opening-round 68.
"I'm doing everything right tee to green and feeling confident with my game," Smyth said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge of match play which I enjoy."
Perry, from the Vintage GC, is on track to improve on his top-16 finish at last year's Championship. He played well today and has an air of confidence about his game.
"I played solidly yesterday on St. George's, I scrambled well today and finished well. If I can get the putter going, I'm confident I can do better than last year."
The move of the day, however, belonged to Windred. The 20-year-old from Newcastle jumped 82 places in the field after carding a two under par 68 at St. Geroge's to make the match play field on the number. He was thrilled with the result after the round.
"I am pretty happy to shoot 68 on such a tough British Open course."
"I've just stayed patient the last two days and told myself my time would come."
"The last three holes I think I made about 60 ft of clutch putts."
"You learn something new each time you play tournament golf at a venue like Royal St. George's," Windred said.
The Quartet will have one more pressing issue to overcome tomorrow, finding a suitable spot to watch tonight's NRL State of Origin.
"I'm sure we'll be able to find a place to watch it, but if not I might have to settle for the highlights." Windred smiled
Thankfully for the group, Endycott came prepared.
"Haha, I've got the old NRL Live App on my phone – It's a gem!" he smiled.
