Hawkes and Vogel Lead Tasmanian Open

Professional golfer and local member Simon Hawkes leads the 2016 Tasmanian Open following the first round at Royal Hobart Golf Club.

Hawkes carded a five-under-par opening round of 67 to lead New South Wales’ Josh Armstrong by one stroke on 68.

A trio of golfers including Tasmania Golf Club’s Mark Schule are tied for third on two-under-par.

Schulze carded 70 this afternoon to tie with Queensland’s Christopher Crabtree and Douglas Klein.

Tasmania Golf Club’s Georgia Milbourne and Victoria’s Steffanie Vogel share the lead of the 2016 Elvie Whitesides Golf Championship following the first day’s play.

 

The pair shot opening rounds of even-par 73 to comfortably lead Western Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley by four strokes on 77.

 

Local member and 13-year-old junior and grand-daughter of former champion Lindy Goggin, Hallie Meaburn, is fourth after carding a five-over-par round of 78.

 

Former amateur champion and Tasmania Golf Club junior Zahara Lemon is a further stroke behind tied on six-over 79 along with Queensland’s Isabelle Simpson.
