Hennessy, Weiki claim 2 Day Easter Classic

Mitchell Hennessy and Rae Weiki have won the 2 Day Easter Classic at Pelican Waters Golf Club today.

Perfect scoring conditions greeted 87 juniors on the final day, after wet and gusty conditions on day one proved challenging.

Hennessy, from Emerald Lakes, shot a two-over par 74 in the first round to hold a one-shot overnight lead from Yeppoon’s Ben Swaffield.

A terrific two-under front nine in the final round proved enough for Hennessey to claim a two-shot victory with rounds of 74-74. Hennessy’s four-over total was two shots clear of Royal Queensland’s Will Bowen, with Blaike Perkins of Bargara a further shot back.

Blackwater’s Rae Weiki was able to fend off Andre Szerszen of Virginia on a countback to claim the girls’ title. Szerszen held a two-shot buffer heading into the final round, but ultimately the final day belonged to Weiki as she produced rounds of 82-81 for a 36-hole total of 163 and the win.

The third and final 2 Day Classic event for 2017 will be held at Keperra Golf Club from 3-4th July. All three 2 Day Classic events are open Greg Norman Junior Masters Qualifiers.
