Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur Underway

Hepburn Springs Golf Club was the latest stop on the Victorian senior golf calendar as 80 golfers teed off on day one of the 2019 Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur. Clear blue skies and little breeze made for an enjoyable day on the short par 66 course.

James Lavender from Northern was the standout performer in the Men’s Nett section. He had six birdies in his round to sit one over par on 67. Four shots back on 71 are Ian McCleary (Kooringal) and Terry Thompson (Southern). It is a tight affair after the top three with 13 players scoring from 74 to 76.

The Women’s Scratch Stableford section is led by Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) who scored 30 stableford points today. Three shots behind is local Bev Smith who will be hoping to make the most of her course knowledge tomorrow. Sitting in third position overnight is Sandra Collingwood (Keysborough) who had 26 points today.

Local knowledge is proving to be vital in the Men’s Nett section as three of the top four are Hepburn Springs members. Patrick Mitchell (Leongatha) is joined by locals Christopher Bell and Kevin Gilchrist on 63 in a three-way tie for first. One shot behind them is another local Bill Jones on 64.

In the Women’s Stableford Mary Davis (Hepburn Springs) scored 23 points on the front nine on her way to a total of 39 points and the overnight lead. Three points behind on 36 is Kooringal’s Vera Lund. In a tie for third place are Lee-Anne Day (Midlands) and Roslyn Black (Corowa) on 34 points.
