Australian pair Rachel Hetherington and Lindsey Wright both progressed to thr third round of the HSBC Women&aposs World Match Play at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. Hetherington went shot for shot with Suzan Pettersen before finally triumphing over the Swede on the 18th hole. Only three holes were decisively won by either player throughout the entire round and it was the Aussie who stepped up when it counted. Wright meanwhile accomplished what compatriot Katherine Hull narrowly missed the previous day, eliminating former world number one, Annikia Sorenstam. Although allowing Sorenstam to claim the early lead when she dropped the first hole, Wright hit back on the second before taking the lead with a birdie on six. The Australian extended her lead on the 10th when Sorenstam made double bogey and although dropping a hole at 12, Wright hung on and wrapped up a 3&2 victory with consecutive holes ending with a par on 16.
