Lauren Higgins has clinched a thrilling play-off victory at the Westcoast Open Amateur whilst Tim Walker romped in the men’s title.

After going head-to-head for 72 holes, Lauren Higgins and fellow Warrnambool GC member Diana Robinson remarkably found themselves in a tie for the championship.

The pair soon headed straight back out to the par-five first hole at Port Fairy Golf Links for a sudden death play-off.

Ultimately it was Higgins who handled the pressure best, making par to Robinson’s bogey to deliver the knockout blow.

In the men’s event, Tim Walker capped off a stellar tournament with a final round of 71 to run away with a 15-shot victory.

Connor McDade claimed the runner-up prize after finishing strong with a final round of 72.

The pleasant conditions experienced at Port Fairy Golf Links this morning was a relief to all players after brutal winds and hail were endured over the previous two days.

The final round saw plenty of improved scores, with Levi Sclater and Marc Ladelle both joining Tim Walker in red numbers with rounds of 70 this morning.
