High Performance Update


A number of NSW High Performance male players competed last week in the 107th Southern Amateur Championship played at The Club at Carlton Woods, located at The Woodlands Community, Houston Texas. Callan O Reilly (Pennant Hills) finished best of the NSW contingent with scores of 68, 73, 70, 74 (-3) to finish in a tie for 25th. Callan will now move on to compete at the Porter Cup to be held at Niagra Falls Country Club, New York from July 23-27. Follow Callan on http://www.portercup.com/ Jordan Zunic was the only other NSW player to make the 36 hole cut which was at 146 (+2). Jordan shot scores of 72, 73, 73, 82 to finish T66. Jordan flew out today to Des Moines, Iowa to try and pre-qualify for the US Amateur before returning to The Woodlands in Houston Texas to attend the Golf Australia National Camp. After the camp Jordan will head to Arkansas to compete in the Western Amateur to be held at The Alotian Club. Unfortunately Brett Drewitt and Ricky Kato failed to make the cut. Ricky will also have the opportunity while here in the US to attend Scotty Cameron Studio in Carlsbad, California. Brett will move on to the Western Amateur from the camp and then the US Amateur from August 12-18 at The Country Club, Brookline Massachusetts. Cathleen Santoso and Carly Beck last week competed in the North and South Women’s Amateur contested at the famous Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina. The event is a 54 hole stroke play qualifying followed by the top 16 making the match play rounds. Cathleen played very well shooting scores of 73, 72, 71 to finish at even par and the 8th leading qualifier. Carly Beck played solidly shooting scores off 72, 76, 73 to finish at +5 but unfortunately she missed the cut buy three. Cathleen played Michelle Piyaparatta from, Corona California in the first round and was defeated 2 down. To view full results of the Championship [Click Here]. Both Carly and Cathleen held to Quebec, Canada to compete in the Canadian Women’s Amateur to be contested at Club de Golf Beloeil from July 23-26.
