Hogg & Claney master Victoria

The fourth leg of the 2016 August Senior sandbelt week of golf took place in blustery conditions as the spotlight for 91 senior golfers turned to Victoria GC. The par 72 layout, one of the country’s finest, always provides a stern test for golfers of all levels & today was no different.

In today’s nett event, Lakeside’s Roger Hogg recorded the day’s finest nett round winning outright with a nett score of 71 from a daily handicap of 5. Hogg had a day to remember, finishing with the tied best gross score of the day along with taking out the nett title. Mike Steventon (Northcote) was runner-up with a nett score of 72 from a daily handicap of 16.

In the gross championship, Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) continued his hot run of form to record his fourth win of the week after shooting a four over par round of 76 to win on a countback from Hogg & Trafalgar’s Jeff Hasthorpe.

Claney, a prolific winner on the ‘senior circuit’ is in rare form after also recently recording win’s interstate at the Gold Coast Senior Amateur & The Australian Senior Matchplay Championship to cement a spot in the top three of the current Australian Senior rankings.

Attention now moves to Metropolitan GC, who will host the penultimate event of the week which will take place on Monday 15 August, followed by The Royal Melbourne Senior Amateur on Tuesday 16 August. (Please note both final events are at full capacity).
