Holman clinches Mandurah Amateur Open

Victorian and National Squad member Nathan Holman has taken out the Mandurah Amateur Open Championship in sensational fashion to claim the title by one stroke at Mandurah Country Club. Holman s final round of 70 comprised 5 birdies and 3 bogeys to finish at 5-under par for the tournament and 1 shot clear of runner-up Nick Price and Jordan Zunic. As the rest of the field seemed to struggle down the stretch, Holman continued to scramble for pars late in his round and looked to have one hand on the trophy after an up and down from the greenside bunker on the 18th hole. Local member Nick Price and New South Welshman Jordan Zunic finished equal second at 4-under par, while National Squad member Oliver Goss, State Team captain Michael Dennis and overnight leader Brady Watt finished at 3-under the card. With the victory, Holman sealed a start at the John Hughes Geely/Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship in late October at Royal Perth Golf Club. It’s been a while since I ve been in the winner s circle , Holman said. It feels good! I got off to a good start and just tried to hold on. I holed some good putts coming home which saved me. As for what s next, Holman has been selected to play in the Asian Amateur Championship in couple months and plans to attempt pre-qualifying for some events coming up this summer. I m not going to turn pro this year. I m going to play another year of amateur,” Holman said.
