Pat Giles has fired an impressive one under 71 at the first round of the 2018 Tocumwal Senior Amateur. The National member's round included 3 birdies and 13 pars to give him a one shot advantage. Ian Frost (Indooroopilly) will be hot on his heels after his round of 73 sees him in outright second. A host of players are one shot further back on 74 including Bruce Nunn (Thirteenth Beach), Ian McCleary (Kooringal), David Robb (Corowa) and Kerry Boehm (Patterson River).

The nett section is also a close contest with Bruce Clark (Box Hill) producing the round of the day with a 67 off a handicap of 12. Giles is next best after his 71 off the stick gave him a nett 68. Mark Fitzpartick (Qantas) and Kerry Boehm (Patterson River) are the next best, both on 69 nett.

The women’s scratch stableford section sees Wodonga’s Judy Langford out in front with 31 points. Langford will take a 6 shot advantage over the in-form Helen Pascoe (Bunniyong). Laurence Bargibant (Indooroopilly) is the next best with 23 points.

The women’s stableford is a hotly contested battle seeing Jenny Long (Box Hill) and Tocumwal’s own Susan Pappas share the lead on a score of 35. A further shot back sees Langford tied with Jennifer Foster (Heywood) after they both compiled 34 points.

Beautiful blue skies were on show for Day 1 and players will be hoping for the same tomorrow.
