Howlong gain numbers with Junior Clinic

The third session of the Howlong Country Golf Club Junior MyGolf Development Day was conducted on Sunday 24th July. The day was a huge success with 24 juniors participating and 9 new juniors joining the program. Despite the inclement weather the clinic went ahead with a putting session inside the Clubhouse. Chairman of the Junior Community Michael Walker said It is fantastic to have such a great turnout and to have the facilities of the clubhouse to use when it is raining. Club President and Junior Development Coach Ken Walton said It was very pleasing to see so many kids out taking part in the clinic on a wet and cold Sunday morning. Each session runs for one hour and is designed to introduce juniors to the sport in a fun environment with the teaching elements focused on the enjoyment of the experience and not the technicalities of the game. Those juniors with emerging abilities will be channeled into advanced training modules. The putting clinic was broken up into four parts with trained community coaches Janet Rogers, Susan Tanks, Michael Walker and Ken Walton taking the group through various putting drills. The session finished with a BBQ prepared by Geoff McDonald of Kennedy s Meats. Geoff s three girls were participating in the sessions and described Dad s sausages as the best sausages in the world! There is still an opportunity for any juniors that have missed the first sessions to join in with the current program running through to the end of the year. The club supplies all equipment on the day with all participants enrolled in the Golf Australia MyGolf program. This program is designed to support junior golf on a national basis and to connect juniors and junior organisations via its web site. The Registration with MyGolf has a once off fee of $15 and there is no other cost for participating.
