Hull of a win in Ottawa

Queenslander Katherine Hull is the toast of Ontario after being crowned champion at the 2008 CN Canadian Women’s Open at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Hull, who started the final round two shots adrift of leader Yani Tseng, fired a final round 3-under 69 to finish the championship at 11-under, one stroke ahead of South Korean Se Ri Pak at 10-under. Tseng struggled under the pressure, shooting a 5-over round of 77 to drop to third on the leaderboard by the end of the day. After receiving the trophy and US$337,500 for her maiden LPGA Tour victory, Hull told the crowd at the 18th green how much the victory meant to her. It’s just been an unreal week- there are some Aussies here in the crowds and I guess I love playing this golf course, Hull said. Hull, 26, shot a course record-equalling 65 in her second round to bring into contention. Defending champion Lorena Ochoa finished at T4 with a final round 73 to leave her four strokes behind Hull.
