Illawarra Juniors take off with Touchdown

Junior Golf in the Illawarra has received a welcome boost after securing sponsorship from Air Charter company, Touchdown Helicopters for the district’s Junior Open Schedule.

The series of tournaments, now named The Touchdown Helicopters Junior Open Series, features six-events across the district, which will be followed by a 36-hole final in January, 2019.

A key feature of the sponsorship is the introduction of a fair play award to be presented at each of the events, with a major award, which could be a joy flight, to be presented at the 36-hole finale.

An initiative to promote greater involvement in Junior Open tournaments across the entire district, the district's clubs that did not have a tournament in this year’s series will become part of the schedule in 2019.

The sponsorship was made possible by Touchdown owner, Brett Kiteley, and his son, Harrison, who are keen members and pennant representatives at Kiama GC. Harrison is also part of the Illawarra Academy of Sport Golf Squad.

Golf Illawarra President Ron Adams was thrilled with the sponsorship, and said it would help drive growth in junior tournament participation across the region.

“For an association like ours, any sponsorship is wonderful and we are excited and grateful to have an organisation like Touchdown come on board.

“By narrowing the number of events in the series, we hope to make it easier for the kids to pick and choose which ones to play,” Mr Adams said.
