Welsh, Cronin, Smith & Azzopardie all claim titles in the first conducted 2015 Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur.
Greg Welsh (Colac) & Graham Cronin (Hepburn Springs) claim the Men’s Scratch & Handicap titles respectively in what was a close finish in both competitions. Welsh fired two rounds of 73 & 66 to edge out rival, and overnight leader, Ian Frost. Welsh started consistently and came home strongly with birdies on 4 of his last 5 holes to fire the round of the tournament 66.
“I just hit them close at the end” Welsh mentioned post round.
Graham Cronin, a local member, claimed the nett title with two nett rounds of 64 & 68 off his 10 handicap.
In the women, Bev Smith was impressive across the two days completing her championship with scratch stableford rounds of 19 & 26 points. Meanwhile, Julie Azzopardie capped off a good week with rounds of 35 & 37 for a total of 72 stableford points.
The inaugural Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur was played over 36 holes on Thursday 28- Friday 29 May. A club located just outside the well-known Daylesford is a challenging Par 66 layout with many undulating greens. The average gross score for the two days was 79.59 for the men and 28.23 stableford points for the women.
The next senior event will be played at Heathcote on Sunday 14 June.
