Inaugural Gardiners Run Senior Amateur a Hit

The inaugural Gardiner Run Senior Amateur was contested this morning in damp conditions, with the heavy rainfall from yesterday taking its toll in some parts of the course.

Taking top honours in the gross section today was Mick Streit from Huntingdale Golf Club with a two over par 74. Mick is in fantastic form, scoring well in events over the August Senior Sandbelt Week, taking the title of the Yarra Yarra Senior Amateur during this time. Closely behind Mick in second place was Steven Wallace from The National Golf Club, shooting 75, winning on a countback from fellow National member Guy Krall.

Enzo Cirone from Yarra Valley Golf Club clinched the nett prize after carding a fantastic 65 off a daily handicap of 25 to finish five shots ahead of local Gardiners Run member Andy Laws with a nett 70 from a handicap of 15.

In its first year, the ladies event had a small but quality field of 8 players. In the Stableford division, familiar face to Golf Victoria’s calendar events, from the Winchelsea Golf Club,was Elizabeth Alston with a score of 32 points, 1 ahead of Gillian Donald from Gardiners Run.

In the Scratch Stableford division, Heather Harley was a standout winner with a fantastic 22 points, a fair way ahead of the rest of the field, with Helen Drake from Dorset coming second on 15 points.  

Gardiners Run Golf Club will be hosting this year’s Men’s Country Championships between Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 of September.

The Lang Lang Golf Club will host their annual Senior Amateur tournament on Monday 14 September and will be followed by the Melton Valley Senior Amateur tournament on Thursday 17th September.
