Interstate Teams Matches-Day One Report

Bright Sydney sunshine greeted the opening day s play at Monash, Pymble and Mona Vale clubs on Monday. COLTS: The weather was a pleasant change for the Colts at Mona Vale after heavy rain on Sunday caused the cancellation of the practice round and meant a number of teams had little time to see the course. New South Wales made a solid start winning 6 to 1 over Tasmania. Queensland and Western Australia fought their matches down to the wire with the result of WA s Shaun Malone and QLD s Jared Consoli s match to decide it- Malone won and gave WA victory. Victoria started their campaign with a solid win over South Australia. Victoria s Matt Griffin produced one of the shots of the day with an eagle on the 18th (his fourth hole) to go two up after four holes. But South Australia s Jordan Sherratt fought back, beating the leading Australian men’s amateur 1-up. Sherratt s result halved the match with Victoria. New South Wales comprehensively beat Tasmania but it was Tasmania&aposs Ryan McCarthy who produced one of the performances of the day to beat Open Championship entrant Rohan Blizard 3&2. Western Australia defeated Queensland despite the Queenslanders getting the better of the WA squad in the foursomes matches. Daniel Nisbet won both his foursomes match and defeated national squad member Jason Scrivener 5&3 in the singles.
