ROUND 1 DRAW The strongest field in the history of the Handa Women&aposs Australian Open have completed their final preparations before tomorrow&aposs opening round at Commonwealth Golf Club. World Number 6 Yani Tseng, World Number 7 Anna Nordqvist and World Number 8 Karrie Webb complete a trio of Top 10 players complemented by World Number 25 and 28 Australians Lindsey Wright and Katherine Hull. Four-time champion Webb said even with a great field, the course did not favour anyone&aposs particular style of game. “It can set up for a number of different players. It is fairly long but I don&apost think that favours the big hitters. The key here is hitting fairways and greens. It is pretty hard to get up and down,” Webb said. It will be a sand-belt baptism of fire for World Number 1 amateur Alexis Thompson who has been paired with Webb and Tseng in the opening round to tee off at 8.25am but the American is unfazed. “I want to play really well in this one. I feel pretty good about my game,” the 15 year old said. Katherine Hull, former British Open champion Jeong Jang and sparkling American Christina Kim will tee off on the 10th hole at 8.35am. Success on Sunday would seal a first Handa Australian Open win for Hull while Kim is keen to see more putts drop. “I hit some solid shots last week but I could not get the flat stick going,” Kim said. Defending champion Laura Davies will start on the 10th tee at 8.45am with playing partners Lindsey Wright and Swede Anna Nordqvist. Should Davies shoot a round below-par on Thursday, it will mark 13 consecutive rounds under par. For Nordqvist, who has never visited Melbourne before, the experience reminds of her playing in England and Ireland. “This reminds me of some British Open courses. Someone has compared this to Sunningdale where we played the British Open two years ago. Once in a while I play in Great Britain and Ireland and it reminds me a little bit of that. I really like it,” Nordqvist said. Wright said the greens could be a deciding factor. “On most courses you&aposll get two-tier greens and a couple that slope front to back or to the side. But these ones are like this, left to right or right to left side slope. You really have to pay attention to what sort of shots you are hitting into the greens,” the Victorian said. When asked on the winning score, Wright said “I think between five and 10 under.” STAR PAIRINGS 8.15am, 10th Tee- Kristie Smith, Amanda Blumenherst, Bo-Mee Lee. 8.25am, 1st Tee – Karrie Webb, Yani Tseng, Alexis Thompson 8.35am, 10th Tee- Katherine Hull, Jeong Jang, Christina Kim 8.45am, 10th Tee- Laura Davies, Anna Nordqvist, Lindsey Wright 8.55am, 10th Tee- Sophie Gustafson, Sarah-Jane Smith, Marianne Skarpnord
