Jack Newton in Adelaide for the Junior Invitational

Jack Newton, Jan Douglass, Nick McCormack and Allan Telford with players The legendary Jack Newton winner of 9 professional tournaments along with runner up finishes at the 1975 Open Championship and 1980 US Masters was in Adelaide yesterday as host of the Jack Newton Invitational held at the North Adelaide Golf Course. The event open to boys and girls under 18 years of age on the day of competition, with a Golf Australia Handicap of 27 or less for boys and 36 girls, proved once again to be a popular event with 56 junior golfers taking part. Newton greeted each player on the tee, offering invaluable tips as each junior teed off for the 18 hole round. Taking out the Girls Jack Newton Cup was Cassidy Evreniadis from the Grange Golf Club with a gross score of 76, 2-over par. Ben Tucker from the Robe Golf Club was the winner of the boys Cup for the third consecutive year with an even par round of 71. Both players will now represent SA in the Srixon International hosted by Jack Newton from 1 Oct – 4 Oct, 2014 at the Maitland Golf Club in NSW. Ella Adams and Liam Kennewell as winners of the 14 and under section, both in playoffs, will also travel to NSW as representatives to compete in the event.
