Jackson strikes again at Commonwealth

Michael Jackson has won the 2013 Commonwealth Senior Amateur.
71 players took to the course for this year’s Commonwealth Senior Amateur in chase for the 2013 title. The tea-tree lined fairways call for accurate shot making while the subtle sloping greens offer players with a challenge of its own.
Intermittent showers and cold weather tested the field on the superbly designed and beautifully manicured par 73 layout. Players were eventually reprieved of the rain but cold and overcast conditions still dampened moral.
Starting on the 6th, Jackson carded 16 points heading out and 16 coming in for a total of 32 Scratch Stableford points to prevail in the gross section. The Yarra Yarra member was steady enough to edge out his nearest opponent, John Wheeler of The National, on a count back to claim the title. Andrew Hansen, Ross McFarlane and Gordon Claney were a further two points adrift on 30.
This is Jackson third victory for the year and places him firmly at the top of the Doug Bachli standings for 2013.
Meanwhile Neil Barry took home the honours in the nett component with an outstanding 46 Stableford points. The Eastern member belied the miserable conditions with 22 points on the front nine before finishing with an impressive 24 points on his way in. Behind him was John Hoare and Eddie Kloprogge tied on 39 points. Hoare notched out Kloprogge on a count back to take second place while Alan Hunter was next best on 38 points.
The next Senior event for the Doug Bachli Trophy will be held at Heathcote Golf Club on Sunday 16 June and will be followed by Shepparton and Tocumwal later that week.
