Jager and Keating crowned champions

Western Australia s Matt Jager completed a sensational double at Lake Karrinyup Country Club as he joined Victorian Stacey Keating in being crowned the 2010 Srixon Australian Amateur Champions in Perth. Jager, who becomes the first player since Brendan Jones in 1999 to win both the Srixon Australian Stroke Play and Amateur titles in the same year, said he was delighted to win in his home state. This is the greatest thing in my amateur career so far and it s been a huge week, Jager said. The Melville Glades Golf Club member defeated gallant New Zealander Ben Campbell 8&7. For Keating, who was playing in her second final, it was a sweet maiden Srixon Australian Amateur win. The Victoria and Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club member was in devastating form as she defeated 15 year old New Zealand rising star Cecilia 10&8. I m really chuffed – tickled pink everything worked today and I can t wipe the smile off my face, Keating said. With a lightning start, Keating moved to 3up after the 8th hole and continued to outplay her opponent reaching a 6up lead after the first 18 holes. Jager too made a strong start- shooting his way to 3up after the opening four holes. Campbell fought back and reduced Jager s lead to just one after nine holes. In the afternoon s play, the West Australian accelerated into the lead winning holes 21-24 to move to a 6up lead. A win on the 28th and 29th hole moved Jager into an unassailable position as he took out the title. Keating, with birdies on the 21st and 27th hole sandwiching a loss on the 22nd hole, moved into a 10up lead and took out the championship. Both Keating and Jager are Golf Australia/AIS National Squad members. 2010 WINNERS 2010 SRIXON AUSTRALIAN MEN S STROKE PLAY CHAMPION: Matt Jager (WA) 2010 SRIXON AUSTRALIAN WOMEN S STROKE PLAY CHAMPION: Cecilia Cho (NZ) 2010 SRIXON AUSTRALIAN MEN S AMATEUR CHAMPION: Matt Jager (WA) 2010 SRIXON AUSTRALIAN WOMEN S AMATEUR CHAMPION: Stacey Keating (VIC)
