Australian youngster Matt Jager made a promising start to the Solaire Open in Manila to be just four shots from the lead after the opening round. The 24-year-old carded an impressive round of two-under 70, to lie in a share of fifth place behind American Dodge Kemmer. Kemmer recorded a blemish free round of 66 to open up a two-stroke advantage over Thai golfer Pawin Ingkhapradit, while Mars Pucay and Wen-tang Lin share third at minus three. Jager was the only Australian to finish the day under par, with the remainder of the Aussie contingent struggling to make much of an impression on the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club. Adam Groom, Sam Brazel, Ryan McCarthy and Unho Park all fired rounds of 73 to be one over, while fellow Australians Jake Higginbottom (+2), Scott Barr (+3), Marcus Both (+4), Matthew Stieger (+5), David Gleeson (+5), David Lutterus (+6), Rick Kulacz (+7), Tim Stewart (+10) and Adam Blyth (+11) were even further back.
