Steven Jeffress is the best placed Australian at the halfway mark of the European Tour&aposs Qualifying School final stage. Playing on the par 72 green course, Jeffress shot an impressive five-under par 67 to move to four-under overall and a share of 26th place. Tony Carolan is the next best Aussie, a further stroke back, while Wade Ormsby couldn&apost repeat his first round heroics and slipped down to a tie for 43rd at two-under par. Anthony Summers (56th), Matthew Millar (68th), Michael Curtain (90th) and Scott Hend (90th) will have to improve dramatically if they are to finish in the top 30 and earn a Tour card for next year. Jarrod Mosely and Andrew Tampion in 142nd and 145th places respectively will need a miracle, but the tournament is over six rounds so there is still plenty of time. Oskar Henningsson continued his fine early form with a second 66 for a three-shot lead over newly-turned pro Federico Colombo of Italy and South Africa&aposs Branden Grace. Iain Pyman, the former Amateur champion, put the pain of a back injury behind him to move into a share of sixth after a 67, as did Sweden&aposs Andreas Hogberg, who reeled off eight birdies in a 63. Former Ryder Cup player Joakim Haeggman hit a 67 to join that group while Bristol rookie Chris Wood, fifth in July&aposs Open Championship as an amateur, carved out a 66 to jump into a tie for 17th on 138. Andrew Butterfield posted a two-under 70 for a level-par 143 but amid the tension of the battle for tour cards the Englishman was still one of the happiest men in the event after wife Jo gave birth to a girl on the eve of his second round.
