Jess Pickwick (Kilmore GC) has been crowed the 2019 Ruby McKenzie Trophy Champion (best gross) after producing two exceptional rounds in the Victorian Women’s Autumn Tournament held at Mornington Golf Club and Flinders Golf Club. Pickwick followed up her first round 65 five under with a 75 today to finish on a total of one over par. Pickwick blitzed the field with her nearest rival Kingston Heath’s Ash Hall (71 & 76) and Victoria’s Jesika Clark (71 & 78). A Grade Gross was awarded to Ash Hall over Clark by two shots.
The winner of the Vi Teesdale Trophy, awarded to the player with the best overall nett score, went to Hepburn Springs’s Bev Smith. Smith played off a daily handicap of seven and returned two very solid rounds of 71 and 69. Smith held off June Tickell (Tafalgar GC) who did not leave empty handed as she claimed the overall A-Grade Nett Prize with 143.
In the B-Grade Championships, Trentham’s Sue Byrne held her overnight lead to take out the title by two strokes. Byrne finished with 91 on day two to go with her first round score of 89 and a total of 180 for the 36 – hole event. Cherryl Houben started five shots back after her day one score of 94 but finished today with 88 to finish in second place comfortably. Houben playing off a handicap of 15, produced nett scores of 79 & 73 which saw her claim the B Grade Nett trophy by a countback over Sue Byrne.
In C Grade it was Susan Dawson (Devilbend GC) winning the gross after firing rounds of 100 and 95 for a total of 195 to finish on top on a countback over Eastern’s Jane Neale. Jennifer Low held her overnight lead to take home the C-Grade Nett prize by three shots over Susan Dawson.
Jing Geng (Riverview Ladies GC) proved too strong in the D Grade section taking home the gross and nett in the division. She fired two consistent scores of 104 and 105 over the two days to win by two strokes over Mornington Local Kay White. Meanwhile Brenda Atkin finished two back of Geng in the nett Championship with a total score on 159.
A huge thank you to everyone at Flinders and Mornington for their tremendous hospitality. A great turnout from volunteers and very welcoming staff throughout helped make the event an enormous success.
