JGQ members play Ciputra World Junior Golf Championships

The Ciputra World Junior Golf Championships was held in Jakarta, Indonesia last week. The tournament was played at Damai Indah Golf Course which also hosts the Indonesian PGA Championships. The course is designed by world famous golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jnr and played very tough with greens running at a quick 14 on the stimpmeter.

There were 20 countries represented at the tournament with four Divisions in both Boys and Girls. The Hills Golf Academy took 15 players all of which are Junior Golf Queensland Members and recorded some very successful results. Hills College and Golf Academy year 10 student, Zubair Firdaus won the Division B (under 16 years) Championship, shooting rounds of 76, 72, 81 and 75 to win the tournament by 2 shots from Denwit from Thailand.

Other great performances at the Championship by Hills students came from Kerri Bong 79, 78, 70 (4th in the Girls B Division – under 16), Hans Yim 85, 83, 85 (6th in Boys D Division – under 11) and Hamish Way 77, 72, 79, 81 (9th in Boys A Division – under 18).

It was a great all round performance by Hills students, Junior Golf Queensland members highlighted by Zubair winning a world title. This is the third World Junior title won by Hills students after World #3, Jason Day won in 2004 and Jovi Panngabean in 2011.
