Golf NSW bestowed its highest award to outgoing Director John Waanders with Life Membership at its Annual General Meeting. The award of Life Membership is one of the most prestigious awards that an organisation can present to a member. The Board may award Life Membership to a person who has at any time been a member of the Council or the Board, or who has given outstanding service to golf in the State or any part of the State. There are currently only nineteen Life Members including John. John has been a stalwart of golf in the Newcastle Region, serving on Committee at his beloved Muree Golf Club and in various roles in the Newcastle District Golf Association where he is currently President. He was awarded Life Membership at both the Muree Golf Club (1991) and in his District (2009). John was elected to the Council of New South Wales Golf Association (following in the footsteps of his father-in-law Lionel Clark who went on to become President). He served as Councillor on the Men’sAssociation from 2003 to 2004 when he was elected to the Board and filled the role of Treasurer from 2007 to 2010. Following the amalgamation in 2010, he was elected to the Board of Golf NSW and served as the Chairman of Finance for the first and third years on this Board. We are all indebted to John for his contribution to golf in this State.
