Kim Johnson has recorded his first victory of the 2018 season after claiming the 2018 Kingston Heath Senior Amateur today.
Unpleasant winds were faced throughout the entire round which guaranteed some high scores. Johnson, a member of The National Golf Club, was the most enduring out of the 94 field with his round of 78 (+6). Remarkably, Johnson was 7 over par through his first 4 holes but managed to birdie holes 3, 7 & 12 to overcome a slow start and return an excellent score.
Fellow National Golf Club member Andrew Davis came in with the next best score with 79.
Players came from wide and far to get their opportunity to play one of the best courses in the world.
The field comprised of 30 interstaters and 1 from Malaysia.
In the nett, New South Welshman Chris Gray (Bonville GC) took a liking to the Melbourne sandbelt and carded a fantastic nett score of 75 to claim the Handicap event.
Geoff Morris (Beverley Park), also from NSW, claimed the runner-up prize with nett 76 on a countback.
With the tough conditions it was no surprise that the average score was 94.4 and the average nett score was 84.7.
The senior sandbelt week continues tomorrow where Commonwealth will host their Senior Amateur and play will commence at 12:45pm.
