Click here for Photo Gallery Day 4, Friday 20 May 2011 It was the final day today of the Women’s NSW 72-hole Stroke Play Championship, being held at The Lakes Golf Club. It proved to be an exciting finish in the leading group, with Jessica Speechley (Lake Karrinyup Golf Club) playing a fantastic round of 76, to catch Queensland s Ashley Ona (Gailes Golf Club). Ona lead by four shots going into the final round, but shot 80 today, which saw her finish level with Speechley. The pair both finished on 302 and were named joint winners of the 2011 Women’s NSW 72-hole Stroke Play Championship. Shelley Shin (Concord Golf Club) and Lakes Golf Club member Adrianna Brent tied for third, both players finishing the 72-holes with 307. The top 16 players (of those who nominated that they wish to play) will now compete in the Match Play for the NSW Women’s Amateur Championship. The draw for this is below. The Match Play draw for the NSWLGU Salver, which is for the next best eight scores for those players with a handicap 6 to 14, is now also available below. The field went off from 8.00am, in a seeded draw. Queensland s Ashley Ona (Gailes Golf Club) continued her strong form today shooting a par round of 74. Ona now sits on 222 after 54-holes, four ahead of her nearest rival. Jessica Speechley (Lake Karrinyup Golf Club, WA) and Shelley Shin (Concord Golf Club) both had fantastic rounds today of two-under 72, and are tied for second place. Elly Cheon (Strathfield Golf Club) is playing consistently, with another good score today of 78 which sees her in fourth position, and Lakes Golf Club member Adrianna Brent is in fifth spot. A seeded draw is now done for the fourth and final round of stroke play on Friday. Please see below. Draw – Round 4 – 72-hole Stroke Play Championship Scores – 72-hole Stroke Play Championship Images – Day 3 Day 2, Tuesday 17 May 2011 Having the first day of play at The Lakes under their belt proved beneficial for most ladies, with scores significantly improving today. In the 72-hole Stroke Play Championship Ashley Ona (Gailes Golf Club, QLD) has shot to the lead, with a fantastic two-under par 72 for the day, giving her a total of 148 over 36-holes. Day one leader, Elly Cheon (Strathfield Golf Club) shot 77 for a total 151, and currently sits in second place. Whitney Hillier is in third position, with consistent scores of 79 and 74 (153), while Shelly Shin (Concord GC) and Jessica Speechley (Lake Karrinyup Golf Club, WA) are equal fourth with 154. Speechley also shot an impressive two-under par 72 today. A seeded draw is now done for the third round of play on Thursday. Please see below. Draw – Round 3 – 72-hole Stroke Play Championship In the Margery McWilliam Bowl Elizabeth Buckley from New South Wales Golf Club finished on top, with scores of 96 and 94 for a total 190. She was four ahead of second place, Lynne Toomey (Beverley Park Golf Club) who finished with 194. Susanne Flack (Kogarah Golf Club) was a further four behind on 198. The top eight in the Margery McWilliam Bowl (who have nominated that they wish to participate) will now qualify for the Match Play which commences Monday 23 May at The Australian Golf Club. Please see below for Match Play Draw. Match Play Draw – Margery McWilliam Bowl Chantal Hodson from The Australian Golf Club took out the 2011 Club Champions Championship. Hodson finished with 158, one shot ahead of Olivia Wilson from Catalina Country Club. In the 2011 Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championship, Kim Burke (Shelly Beach Golf Club) claimed victory, finishing with 160. Last year s State Champion Sue Wooster (Victoria Golf Club) finished second on 165, and Gemma Dooley (New South Wales Golf Club) was third. The course proved challenging for all competitors, however there were still some good scores. In the 72-hole Stroke Play Championship Elly Cheon (Strathfield Golf Club) has taken an early one-shot lead, finishing the day with an impressive round of 74 (par). Ellen Davies-Graham (Redcliffe Golf Club, QLD) scored a one-over par 75, and sits in second position, just one shot behind Cheon. Ashley Ona (Gailes Golf Club, QLD) is a further shot behind with 76, in third place. In fourth position on 77 is Kim Burke (Shelley Beach Golf Club), while Lakes member Adrianna Brent is tied for fifth place with Grace Lennon (Kingston Heath Golf Club, VIC) and Shelly Shin (Concord Golf Club), all players finishing their round with 78. A number of players finished on 79 and 80, which should see a competitive second round. In the Margery McWilliam Bowl Pru Done from Tamworth Golf Club scored 93, and holds a narrow one shot lead from Lynne Toomey (Beverley Park Golf Club) who finished with 94. Elizabeth Buckley (New South Wales Golf Club) is third with 96, and Jennifer Taylor, also from Tamworth Golf Club, is fourth, with a score of 100. In the Club Champions Championship Kim Burke from Shelley Beach Golf Club leads the field with 77. Jordana Keaton from Musswelbrook Golf Club is in second place, shooting 78 for the day, while Allyce Watkinson from The Lakes is in third place, just one shot further behind on 79. Kim Burke also leads the Mid-Amateur Championship with 77. Last years State Champion Sue Wooster (Victoria Golf Club) is in second position, finishing the day with 80. Equal third on 88 is Tracey Allan (Macquarie Golf Club) and Sue Fairhurst (Bankstown Golf Club). Images – Day 1 Pre-event article The 2011 Women’s NSW Amateur Championship is the pinnacle event of women’s amateur golf in NSW. Over 130 competitors will contest this year s event, being held at The Lakes and The Australian Golf Clubs from 16-24 May 2011. This year s field is of exceptionally high quality, including a number of the top Women’s Australian Amateur players Jessica Speechley (WA), Ashley Ona (QLD), Breanna Elliot (VIC), Tilly Poulson (VIC), Corrine Swan (QLD) and Courtney Massey (QLD). There is a sprinkling of internationals, comprising of Sharmilagh Singh (Fiji) and Justine Faith Teo (Singapore), and a host of outstanding New South Wales contenders including Adrianna Brent (The Lakes), Carly Beck (The Australian) and Lauren HIbbert (Pennant Hills). Defending Champion Sue Wooster (Victoria GC) will again be back to defend her title, while recently crowned 2011 Women’s NSW Senior Champion, Jacqui Morgan (Monash GC) is in fine form and will be pushing for a second title this year. There are a number of participants from both host Clubs who are sure to have a home course advantage against the field. However with the standard of entries so high, the quality of golf all round is set to be world-class. The 2011 Women’s NSW Amateur Championship will see the top 16 competitors from the 72-hole stroke play Championship, held at The Lakes Golf Club 16, 17, 19, 20 May, compete in four rounds of match play (Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Final, Final), each match being 18-holes, except the final which is 36-holes. Match play will be held at The Australian Golf Club on 22-24 May 2011. ABOUT THE EVENT The Women’s NSW Amateur Championship has been conducted since 1903. Previous winners include Karrie Webb, Nikki Campbell and Sarah Oh. It is an Australian Women’s Ranking Event. The 2011 Women’s NSW Amateur Championship incorporates the 2011 Women’s NSW 72-hole Championship, the 2011 Women’s Mid- Amateur Championship, the 2011 Margery McWilliam Bowl, and the 2011 Women’s NSW Club Champions Championship. 2011 Women’s NSW 72-hole Championship The 2011 Women’s 72-hole Championship will be held the The Lakes Golf Club on 16-17 and 19-20 May 2011. The Championship is for female amateur golfers whose handicap does not exceed 12 strokes at the time of entry. The Championship will be stroke play over four rounds of 18 holes (72 holes): Round 1 (18 holes) Monday 16 May Round 2 (18 holes) Tuesday 17 May Round 3 (18 holes) Thursday 19 May Round 4 (18 holes) Friday 20 May The entire field will contest all four rounds. 2011 Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championship The 2011 Women’s NSW Mid-Amateur Championship is played in conjunction with the first and second round of the 72-hole Championship at The Lakes Golf Club on 16-17 May 2011. The Championship is for female amateur golfers, aged from 35 to 54 years on the first day of play. 2011 Women’s NSW Margery McWilliam Bowl The 2011 Women’s Margery McWilliam Bowl is for female amateur golfers with a handicap Limit 13 to 25. It is the Division 2 section of the NSW Amateur Championship. The Margery McWilliam Bowl is played over two stages qualifying and match play. The Qualifying Rounds are two rounds of 18-holes, played on 16-17 May 2011 at The Lakes Golf Club. The top eight qualify to compete in the Match Play component, which is played on 23-24 May 2011 at The Australian Golf Club. 2011 Women’s NSW Club Champions Championship The 2011 Women’s NSW Club Champions Championship is for female amateur golfers who are the 2010 Women’s Club Champion of a Golf Club affiliated with Golf NSW. Club Champions Championship will be played in conjunction with Rounds one and two of the NSW 72-hole Championship at The Lakes Golf Club, on 16-17 May 2011. 2011 Women’s NSW Amateur Championship The 2011 Women’s NSW Amateur Championship will be held at The Australian Golf Club on 22-24 May 2011. It consists of four rounds of match play (Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Final, Final), each match being 18-holes, except the final which is 36-holes.
