Jones falls short

Australian Brendan Jones has finished three shots off winner Makoto Inoue at the Canon Open at Totsuka Country Club. A stunning seven-under-par final round of 65 saw Inoue come from down the leaderboard to scoop the title. Jones ended up in equal sixth position on 10-under following a scorching eight-under-par round on the fourth day which saw him collect $AU 99,183. Jones&apos compatriot Steven Conran finished in a share of 13th spot with Kiwi David Smail on eight-under while Craig Parry finished two shots further back in a tie for 25th spot. Starting the day in 14th position, Inoue collected seven birdies over his first 13 holes which proved just enough to take the title as he finished on 13-under-par – a stroke ahead of four players. Overnight leader Hiroyuki Fujita had looked in good shape to take victory after collecting an eagle and a birdie in the opening two holes. However, three subsequent bogeys that included dropped shots at the 15th and 17th saw him card an even-par 72 and finish alongside Yusaku Miyazato, Taichi Teshima and Yusuharu Imano on 12-under. Imano produced a late charge to put himself in contention but despite sinking four birdies in six holes from the 12th, his six-under-par round of 66 fell just short.
