Joy in Japan for Jones

Australian Brendan Jones eagled the final hole to post a one-stroke victory in the Taiheiyo Masters in Japan, beating a field containing star compatriots Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy. Jones, who began the final round holding a two-shot cushion, was tied with Japanese Toru Taniguchi after the 17th hole but sank a nine-metre eagle putt on the par-five 18th to score a dramatic win. “I can&apost believe what happened in the last 10 minutes,” said a jubilant Jones, who punched the air at the moment he eagled. “I didn&apost even think to get the putt in, I was trying to get the putt close. It wasn&apost a miracle shot, but it&aposs amazing. It&aposs a Tiger Woods moment.” “I know most of the people today have been hoping for a Taniguchi victory, but I have a lot of supporters in Japan, not only this year or this tournament, I&aposve played here the last six years.” “I love playing in Japan and I hope to play in Japan many, many years.” The Australian carded a two-under-par 70 in the final round. Scott was outright third on 11-under, one shot ahead of compatriots Ogilvy (66) and Chris Campbell (69).
