The Victorian is currently at four under par after 14 holes and is holding a one shot lead over New South Wales professional Grant Kenny. Wester Australian Stephen Herbert is a shot behind at two under par, with amateur Simon Dunstone and Peter Jones another shot back in tie for fourth.
The trio of Michael Hawrood, Roger Davis and Peter O'Malley, are +1 midway through their rounds.
The afternoon field has just begun to hit off with the first groups out at 11.30am.
