Julie Gray-Rak has honoured her late brother Paul by winning the Paul Rak Memorial Day Trophy at Royal Melbourne Golf Club today.
“I’m just so proud to win this for him” Gray-Rak said as she accepted the trophy alongside her fourball partner Beverley Myer.
The pair combined for 43 points to win in a countback over Michael Fitzsimon & Stuart Metcalfe.
25 points on the back nine was too good with a vital birdie by Myer on 13 proving the difference.
The Victorian Golf Foundation is a Trust Fund established by Golf Victoria to assist club and District projects, programs and services which benefit golf.
First played in 1988, the Victorian Golf Foundation Annual Golf Day has been held in partnership with Royal Melbourne each year to raise funds for golf development projects and initiatives undertaken within Victoria, including junior golf programs and educational support for young golfers.
As a special initiative in 2016, Golf Victoria & Royal Melbourne renamed the day the ‘VGF Paul Rak Memorial Trophy Day’ in honour of the late Paul Rak AOM who passed away in September 2015.
Paul was highly regarded in the golfing community for his outstanding commitment to golf in Victoria and for his contribution at both The Royal Melbourne Golf Club (CEO for 8 years) and Kingston Heath Golf Club (GM for 14 years).
