With blusterous conditions greeting the players on the first tee and showers threatening, it was certainly a day that would test all players.
Aside from the conditions, the players were eager and looking forward to the challenge ahead and hoping that their success in the seasonal matches would hold them in good stead for their quarter final contests.
The first contest saw Mornington Day and Box Hill Broncos do battle on the champions course at Sandhurst Club.
Box Hill got off to the perfect start with the Li brothers, William and Eric winning their matches 6/5 and 1 up respectively.
Wins to Ethan Wong (2up) and Michael Song (3/1) would be enough for Box Hill to claim victory and book their spot in the semi-final next Saturday.
The next team to secure their place at Sandringham next Saturday was Keysborough, as they had a convincing 5-1 victory over Northern.
Big 4/3 wins to Mitchell Woods and Ryan Isherwood led the team to victory.
The final two matches were closely fought contests with both being decided by a sudden death playoff.
Southern managed to hold off Kooringal after Kay Bannan won her game on the 20th against Flynn Trembath in the number one match to take the contest to 3 wins apiece and into a deciding play off.
Both clubs select a player to represent them on the deciding play off.
The two clubs stuck with their number one players as Trembath and Bannan would head out to do battle again.
It was Bannan who held strong with an excellent par on the first to give Southern the win and keep their season alive.
The final match between Heidelberg and Royal Melbourne was another tight tussle as Royal Melbourne saluted after another sudden death playoff.
After finishing at 3 all, Heidelberg sent out James Evans to take on Royal Melbourne’s Daniel Tuddenham.
The first play off would be enough to see Royal Melbourne secure the final spot in next week’s semi-finals.
Players will do battle at Sandringham next Saturday with the winners playing in the final on Sunday
Golf Australia would like to pass on its thanks to Sandhurst Club for their wonderful hospitality throughout the day.
