Junior program/pathway success for West Lakes GC

A combination of dedicated professional staff, a proactive and supportive committee and office staff, has set up the foundation of what promises to be a fantastic junior program at the West Lakes Golf Club.

A junior program that delivers not only golf specifics, but also high levels of respect and skills that will assist all participants in life.

In recent years the West Lakes Golf Club has gone from no structured junior program and only 4 junior members in July 2012, to a fully functional program with over 30 junior participants, including 9 girls, with several other active casual clinic attendees.

After being absent from the Golf SA Junior Pennant Competition for the past 4 years, West Lakes will this week (Sun 1 June) field a side in round 1 of Division 2 Junior Pennant which highlights the progress.

West Lakes a current MYGolf Centre will be looking to incorporate the MYGolf Program into its beginner level, when the national junior program is relaunched in July 2014.

The West Lakes junior pathway currently includes;

  • Come & Try for new juniors (during school holidays)
  • Cadets Level 1
  • Cadets Level 2 (6 & 9 Holes)
  • 18 Holes Sunday
  • 18 Holes Saturday
  • Advanced Junior Coaching group
  • Future scholarships

Upon joining the club, all juniors receive a club shirt and hat and each junior must meet both a skill, general knowledge of rules & etiquette and behavioural standard before advancing through to the next level.

July this year see’s the introduction of the inaugural advanced coaching group to the club, this group will provide some more advanced coaching with the introduction of some sports science and sports medicine programs.

“Participants will receive information and exposure to psychology, skeletal physiotherapy, diet information, specific coaching information using modern technologies and also introduction to advanced training methods.” said Jamie Clutterham West Lakes Assistant Professional & Golf SA State Assistant Coach.

“This promises to set up an even stronger foundation for the clubs future and possible stronger presence with pennant teams.”

“It’s within the clubs plans to introduce potential scholarships for any leading juniors who meet the required criteria and are compliant with the club program”. Cluttherham added.

It is envisaged that these juniors will be involved with Golf SA or Golf Australia at the elite level and the club will support their individual needs to become the best golfer they can be.

The clubs coaching clinics and on course programs are fully operational and the club has this year set up a junior committee consisting of staff and parents to further the range of options of club involvement and fundraising for continued growth of the program and development.

Golf SA congratulates the West Lakes Golf Club for the foundation it has built over the past four years, it’s certainly exciting times for juniors out at the West Lakes Golf Club.
