Calm and overcast weather greeted players this morning for the second edition of the revamped Junior Victorian Open at 13th Beach Golf Links and Barwon Heads Golf Club.
178 of the very best juniors from across Australia and overseas assembled in chase for the coveted 2018 title.
This year’s boys and girls winner will be guaranteed a start in the Vic Open in February 2019.
Daniel Gill (Commonwealth) has shot to the top of the boys’ leader board after firing an incredible 5-under 67 on the 13th Beach – Creek Course in round 1 this morning.
Gill’s round included 6 birdies and an eagle on the par five 7th hole.
Following closely behind on 4-under-par are Harrison Burner (Glenelg – SA) and Tom Ryan (Cranbourne).
In the girls’ section, Piper Stubbs (Huntingdale) and Min-A Yoon (Korea) are tied for the lead on 3-under-par.
It was a highly impressive effort from Stubbs considering she arrived back in Melbourne early this morning after returning from competition in New Zealand.
Min-A Yoon continues to impress after proving her capability at the Victorian Amateur last week.
Sitting in third place in the girls’ section is June Song who returned a 1-under 71 at the 13th Beach – Beach Course.
The Junior Victorian Open was first run in 2013 as an 18-hole event in the lead up to the Vic Open.
Following on from the recent success of the Vic Open, the Junior Vic Open expanded for 2017 over 72-holes at 13th Beach Golf Links and Barwon Heads Golf Club.
All players will complete one round on the Beach and Creek courses at 13th Beach and one round at Barwon Heads before the final round will be played at Barwon Heads on Thursday December 20.
