Juniors take care of Foursomes titles

Two super junior combinations proved too strong for the 58 pairs competing in the Victorian Women’s and Men’s Foursomes today at The Heritage. In the women’s section, Bianca Ling (Kingswood) & Johanna Wyllie (Tambo Valley) claimed the title with a consistent performance throughout the day. Making the most of the perfect conditions, the pair trailed a dangerous Royal Melbourne combination – Jennifer Carden & Caroline Edwards –  by one shot after the morning round. But things changed quickly for them as they made up 6 shots on the first nine of the afternoon round. This was mainly caused by an untidy and untimely 9 on the 9th hole for the Royal Melbourne pair. Despite the pairs scoring evenly on the last nine, those 5 lost shots gave the junior girls a substantial lead and allowed them to become the Women’s Foursomes Champions.

The competition was strong amongst the men with a mix of youth and experience in the field. The eventual winners had close competition all day after the first round produced a cluster of pairs within few shots of each other. James Bannan and Christian Bennett from Rosanna posted an even par 72 first round. Their main rivals were Anthony Houston (Kingswood) and a local DJ Loypur (The Heritage), the pair with the best combined handicap of the field – +1.5. With even scores in the morning, things looked promising for them after 27 holes. The Rosanna pair had a shaky second round start, 41 versus an excellent 36 even pair by Houston and Loypur. However, the Rosanna pair combined perfectly coming home to turn the tables on them,  with a  2 under the card, 34. This excellent scoring eventually separated the pairs by one single shot after 36 holes. Rosanna Golf Club, represented by Bannan and Bennett took the traditional Australasian Shield Trophy.

Overall, this challenging competition provided an opportunity to enjoy the fantastic facilities at The Heritage Golf and Country Club whilst simultaneously testing…or strengthening friendships!
