Keating takes share of lead in Queensland

Courtesy: Golf Queensland Srixon Australian Amateur Champion Stacey Keating has drawn level with Breanna Elliott to share the 36-hole lead at the Queensland Women&aposs Amateur Championship at Bribie Island Golf Club. In the Men&aposs Championship at Headland Golf Club, Queensland state representative Brett Rankin maintains a three shot lead over Sydney&aposs Brett Drewitt. Stacey Keating today added a second round 73 (-1) to follow up her first round 71 (-3) to sit at 144 (-4) for the championship. Keating will tee it up in tomorrow morning&aposs third round with first round leader Breanna Elliott (Yarrawonga) who fired a disappointing three over par round of 77, a full 10-shots worse than yesterdays brilliant course record 67 (-7) A further four shots adrift are Corinne Swan (Burleigh) and Adriana Brent (The Lakes) who carded second round scores of 75 (+1) and 73 (-1) respectively to sit at 148 (even). The nett division leaderboard is shared by Sharee Hasson (Pacific – 72, 73) and Zoie Cooper (Royal Perth 71, 74). In a break from the traditional top 50 players plus ties format for the 36-hole cut, Golf Queensland officials extended an invitation to all 58 competing players to compete in tomorrow third and forth rounds. The third round will commence tomorrow morning from 6:50am at Bribie Island Golf Club. In the Men&aposs Stroke Play Championship at Headland Golf Club, Brett Rankin followed up yesterday&aposs course record 63 (-9) with a solid second round 4-under par 68. Rankin sits at 13-under par 131, three shots clear of last year&aposs New South Wales Colt&aposs representative Brett Drewitt, who was again a model of consistency in carding a second consecutive round of 67 (-5). The low round of the day at Headland however belonged to Malaysian national squad member Majid Hisyam who fired an impressive 6-under par 66. Dual Queensland Boy&aposs Amateur champion Cameron Smith is a further shot back after carding a second round of 68 (-4). The third and forth rounds of the Queensland Men&aposs Amateur Championships will conclude tomorrow.
