Victoria s Stacey Keating is the toast of Winnipeg after being crowned champion at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. Keating finished with rounds of 73, 69, 73 and 70 for a classy 3-under par finish, edging out defending champion and Canadian amateur squad member Stephanie Sherlock by three strokes. The win makes Keating just the fourth international competitor to win the event and the first Australian to finish the final day on top since Jane Lock s victory 27 years ago. Speaking to the Royal Canadian Golf Association after her win, Keating said it was the biggest event I ve ever won and it feels amazing. Keating will now alter her travel plans after the win gave her an exemption into the 2008 CN Canadian Women’s Open- the country s only LPGA event. It will be held from August 11-17 at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club in Ontario. South Australia s Stephanie Na had a tough tournament with a torrid 12-over final round of 84 to finish in 50th place with a score of 312. Leaderboard 1.
