Kemp grabs third

Australian Sarah Kemp has fired a final round of 68 to finish in a tie for third behind Trish Johnson at the Ladies Italian Open. Kemp, who was tied for the lead after two rounds, had her chances to claim the title on the final day but her putter let her down on numerous occasions. Fellow Australians Nikki Garrett and Joanne Mills finished in equal 24th position, nine shots from the winner, while compatriot Rebecca Stevenson was a stroke further adrift in equal 28th place. Of the remaining Australians in the field, Anna Rawson and Leah Hart finished equal 34th, Cherie Byrnes tied for 51st, while Karen Lunn was 60th. At the LPGA Corning Classic, Wendy Doolan was the leading Australian, finishing in a tie for 45th place at four-under-par and 16 shots behind Young Kim, who claimed a three-stroke victory. Of the other Australians in the field, Rachel Hetherington tied for 49th, Lindsey Wright finished equal 56th and Michelle Ellis was joint 72nd, 23 strokes from the winner.
