Kemp just behind leaders as Keating battles

Sarah Kemp and Katherine Hull are the highest-placed Australians after the opening round of the CN Canadian Women’s Open. Canadian Amateur champion and Victorian Stacey Keating finished with an 8-over (80) after trouble on the back nine. Kemp and Hull finished with a 1-under 71, joining 16 other players including America s Paula Creamer after the opening round. Kemp started her final two holes at 3-under but consecutive bogeys brought her back at the end of the day. A birdie on Hull s final hole left her 1-under after bogeys at 12 and 13. Lindsey Wright and Karrie Webb finished level with Juli Inkster and Sophie Gustafson at 1-over. Rachel Hetherington finished with a 4-over 76. Defending champion and world number one Lorena Ochoa finished her opening round with a 6-under 66 to lead the field , one stroke ahead of Annika Sorenstam and two strokes ahead of three Koreans including Se Ri Pak.
