Kennedy continues impressive Japan streak

Daisuke Katoaka is in his third full season on the Japan Golf Tour but today he won his first title with a three shot victory at the Kansai Open in Shiga Prefecture with a three shot victory over Australian Brad Kennedy who added to his impressive record in the event with a win, a runner-up and 3rd place finish in his last three starts at the Kansai Open.

Kataokoa started the day one shot out of the lead but with five birdies in his first seven holes he had taken the lead and although not able to build on his great start he had done enough to establish and maintain his lead.

Kennedy made a fast start with an eagle and birdie at the opening two holes and became a chance to take the title when he birdied the 6th and 7th but a double bogey at the 14th cost any realistic chance of winning. His record in this event however is remarkable.

Won Joon Lee, in just his second event as a cardholder on the Japan Tour, finished in a share of 3rd although after a fast start himself with a birdie and eagle at the opening two holes he slipped back over the remainder of the round. Still, it was an impressive effort for the talented former Sydneysider who is on the comeback trail from injury.
