Kingston Heath winners zoom through to Mazda State Final

The most sought after qualifying venue in the Mazda Victorian Four-ball Championship was held today at none other than the prestigious Kingston Heath GC, host to the 58th World Cup of Golf event in November this year. Another warm morning and fantastic conditions welcomed the full field of 100 players eagerly anticipating a round on the consistently top 50 ranked course in the world.

Today’s men’s category saw a hotly contested result, with Matthew Loughnane (Kew) & Cameron Knowles (Kooringal) clinching victory with an excellent 47 points. Closely followed saw a countback between 4 players on 46 points, where Daniel Baxter (Garfield) & Noel Baxter (Peninsula-Kingswood) managed to lead the pack and grab the runners up position. Coming in third place was Gordon Bell & Stuart Bell (Woodlands).

Winners of the women’s event came from Noela Read & Gay Paterson (Commonwealth), scoring top honour with a superb 45 points over a countback from Linda Nayna & Dianne Simmons (Yarra Yarra) who finished runners up. Closing out the category of prizewinners was Riko Nakayama & Tricia Vine (Peninsula-Kingswood) with a solid 42 points.

The mixed category saw another countback between three players tied on 41 points, where ultimately Cathy Chen (The Heritage) & Michael Gao (Riversdale) came out victorious. Runners up were Qiang Xin Li & Lei Cai (Spring Valley), followed by George Morrin & Mary Bennett (Strathallan) all scoring a handy 41 points.

The next qualifying round heads to Cranbourne on Friday 22 January.
