Kirk and Smith Looking for Top 10 finish

Australians Katherine Kirk and Sarah Jane Smith will be looking for top 10 finishes tomorrow in the Kingsmill Championship presented by JTBC being played in Virginia.

Kirk, who is currently in a share of third place, has an outside chance of catching the leader American Lizette Salas.  Salas fired a flawless round of six-under-par 65, to sit at 13-under-par total and will take a three shot lead into the final round.

Kirk fired a third round of three-under-par 68 on the River Course to be at 8-under-par.  Kirk got off to a flying start with four birdies in the first five holes.  However a bogey on the par 4 8th halted her momentum.   Another bogey on the 12th saw her drop back to seven-under, however she finished off on a positive note with a birdie on the challenging par 4 18th.   If the Queenslander can get off to a quick start, you never know, she might be able to put some pressure on and capture her third LPGA title.

Smith on the other hand is currently tied for 14th position after a 70 today to be at four-under-par. The Queenslander is a great position to post her first top 10 finish of the year and the fifth in her LPGA career,

For the American Salas, she will be looking to capture her first LPGA title, she came close last year but lost in a playoff to Norway’s Suzann Pettersen.  Salas has had a solid start to the year having already posted two top 10 finishes.  South Korean Hee Young Park is her closest rival.

Park, who has two LPGA titles to her name, posted a 69 which included four birdies and two bogeys.   Salas will be well aware of her playing partner’s ability to go low.

The Rolex ranked World No. 2 and 3 players, Stacy Lewis and Lydia Ko share third place with Kirk and also within strike of Salas.

Of the other Australians in the field, Karrie Webb (70) is at one-under and tied for 34th position.  Sarah Kemp (72) and Stacey Keating (71) are a further shot back and tied for 41st place.   Lindsey Wright (76) fell back down the leaderboard today and is tied for 71st place.

Defending champion, Cristie Kerr is at three-under and tied for 19th.
